Early Career Opportunities

The Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies (AMES) provides a culturally vibrant and dynamic research environment for Early Career Researchers in a wide range of fields including philology and linguistics, history, archaeology, literature, religion, philosophy, social sciences, and anthropology. Leveraging Oxford's extensive network of resources, Early Career Researchers at AMES can expand their professional network, gain full membership to one of Oxford's 38 colleges, and achieve scholarly independence during their tenure with the Faculty. Early Career Researchers at AMES are also encouraged to participate in events and seminars, join one of our Thematic Research Clusters, and contribute to the broader research community of the Faculty.

AMES supports postdoctoral early career researchers in obtaining many externally-funded research fellowships, including:

If you are interested in applying for a funder or scheme not listed above, please contact our Research Facilitator (ingrid.locatelli@humanities.ox.ac.uk) to determine if the Faculty can support your application.

We encourage prospective Postdoctoral Fellows to apply by following these steps:

  1. Check the eligibility for each fellowship by following the provided links.  Please do not proceed until you are sure you meet the eligibility requirements.
  2. Identify and approach a potential mentor within AMES. Our faculty profiles identify the subject group and research cluster their work focused on, but innovative, exciting, and interdisciplinary ideas are also welcome.
  3. Check the deadlines outlined in each on the page for each Fellowship and submit the documents required to obtain the School’s Research Committee approval to the Research Facilitator (ingrid.locatelli@humanities.ox.ac.uk).

If you have any questions, please email the Research Facilitator (ingrid.locatelli@humanities.ox.ac.uk) for support and advice.
