Biography
I am a doctoral student interested in the material culture, architecture, and religio-politics of Sufi shrines across the early modern Ottoman Empire and Central Asia, with an emphasis on the Naqshbandi and Yasavi ṭarīqas. My MPhil in Islamic Art and Architecture (2023-25, Oxon) culminated in an examination of the Char Bakr shrine in the outskirts of Bukhara (situated in present-day Uzbekistan), in particular the role played by the ‘saintly family’ of the Juybaris, as well as the reigning Abuʾl-Khayrid Shibanid dynasty. I continue this strand of research on a broader scale for my DPhil at New College.
