Kangni Huang

Kangni Huang is a scholar of premodern Chinese Literature. Her research focuses on late imperial drama and fiction, literary thought and theory, and the global early modernity. Kangni has published on metafiction in 17th-century China and is working on a related book project about metaliterature in late imperial China. This book project invites the readers to treat imaginative literature as a rich resource for conceptual issues in literary thought, bridging the existing gap between the studies of poetics and of narrative genres in the field of premodern Chinese literature. Each chapter of the book discusses one aspect of literary creation represented prominently in drama and/or fiction, such as the generative power of reading, the image of women writers, and the problem of anonymous writing.

 

Kangni received her PhD in Chinese Literature from Harvard University in 2024 and was a postdoctoral fellow in the Society of Fellows in the Humanities at the University of Southern California from 2024 to 2026. She has taught various courses on Chinese theatre, strange tales and fiction, and the Chinese language at the University of Colorado at Boulder, Harvard University, and USC.
