Founded in early 2026 by our third-year students Jack Leonard, Iona Gladstone and Ismay Lewis, the Oxford China Group connects Oxford students with alumni and professionals whose work spans China, Greater China, and the wider Asia-Pacific region. Through talks, fireside chats, and open Q&A sessions at the Oxford China Centre/Queen’s College, we give students the chance to explore how Chinese Studies, language skills, and regional knowledge can open doors across business, entrepreneurship, marketing, publishing, and international careers.
Recent speakers, as of May 2026, have included former alumni,
Chris Ruffle (matriculated in 1970s): a Shanghai-based businessman, winemaker, and author of In a Strange Land;
Adam Knight (matriculated in 2011): co-founder of TONG, a cross-cultural consultancy that has helped launch over 120 brands, and YASO, an $11M Series A-backed social commerce platform for brands selling to Chinese Gen Z consumers;
Emily Ryan (matriculated in 2019) an Oxford Chinese Studies alumna now working at Swire Coca-Cola in Hong Kong.
Through these events, the Oxford China Group offers practical insight into life after Oxford, from navigating the job market and preparing for interviews to building careers connected to China.
The Oxford China Group releases their newsletter every fortnight, covering OCG events and student life both in China and Oxford. A recent copy can be found here.
