An edition with commentary and translation of book 11 from the Paippalāda recension of the Atharvaveda.

Courses Taught

My most recent courses are in Avestan language and texts for undergraduates and graduates. In the past, I have also taught Old Persian and Vedic Sanskrit for AMES, and Comparative Indo-Iranian Historical Linguistics.

Hon. Moderations in Classics followed by BA Hons. in Sanskrit with Old Iranian at St Hugh's College, Oxford (1971). Diploma (now MPhil.) in Comparative Philology, Oxford (1973). DPhil. supervised by Anna Morpurgo Davies (1979).

Research Interests

My research centres on the earliest history and prehistory of the languages of the Indo-Iranian branch of the Indo-European language family. Most of my publications deal with historical and comparative linguistic problems in Vedic Sanskrit, Avestan, and Old Persian texts.
