Biography

Kelly Ann Shea is a DPhil student in Asian & Middle Eastern Studies at the Queen’s College. Her research focuses on Buddhist tales in medieval Japanese setsuwa literature. Kelly Ann received an MA in Global Studies from the University of Tokyo, with her thesis: “Feminine Religiosity and Processes of Marginalization and Legitimization in Early Medieval Japan: An Analysis of Kannon in Selections from Uji Shūi Monogatari.” She received a BA in East Asian Studies from the College of William & Mary, and has a professional background in the field of U.S.-Japan relations; Kelly Ann spent several years working for the Japan-United States Friendship Commission, a United States federal grantmaking agency which promotes strong relations through people-to-people exchange.
